ITFNZ Logo

The ITFNZ logo was designed by Mr David Sauvage, a 3rd dan black belt from Auckland. The design was chosen from entries in a National Competition held in late 1989. It incorporates the kiwi, the unofficial emblem of New Zealand, and the lettering in the centre of the logo is written in Korean 'Han-Gul'.

The logo reflects the oriental idea of opposite forces (yin/yang) making up a whole. Two opposites balancing together is central to oriental philosophy, indicating that while things continually change in infinity, there will always be balance and harmony. This idea can be found in the Korean flag.

The colours of black, red and blue were chosen because not only are they present in both the Korean and New Zealand flags but also the three most senior belt colours in Taekwon-Do are represented.
