Mr Harry Hemana

Mr Hemana began his training with the Army and opened his own club in the Hutt Valley in the early 1970s. In the mid eighties he founded the South Pacific Taekwon-Do Federation, later to be renamed the New Zealand Taekwon-Do Academy.

The Academy merged with ITFNZ in the late 1990s, and now ITFNZ enjoy having on board a man with a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has attended and umpires at many World Championships and coached many National Teams. He continues to pass on his knowledge to our National Teams in a specialist coach and advisor.

Mr Hemana passed away on 3rd May 2005.

Farewell to a Pioneer

We extend our sincerest condolences to his wife Elaine and family.

The Funeral was held at the Trentham Army Camp Chapel at 11am on Friday 6th May, followed by interment at Akatararwa Cemetery. There was a Taekwon-Do guard of honour and many of the ITFNZ Instructors were present at the service. Mr Hemana was laid to rest in his dobok.
