ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships 2011

Wellington New Zealand. 9-13 March 2011

Amendment to NZ Team Selection Process

The current rule for selecting a NZ Team Representative to compete at a World Championships is that they must be at least 1st Dan and above on the selection day and must remain on the grade that they are on the selection day.

The NZ Coaching / Management Team could identify talented red & black stripes who with the correct training could represent NZ on a World Championship level. We have amended part of the current selection process to read that members must be at least red belt and above on the Selection Day to be considered for a place on the National Team. Subject to the selected red / black stripes successfully passing an ITFNZ Black Belt Grading, they will be eligible to compete at a World Championship provided enough time has been allowed to get the appropriate documentation approved by the ITF.

Mr Dennis Burns, Chairman of the ITFNZ Board of Directors announced the winner of the 2011 World Champs Logo Competition and the confirmed dates and venue at the Awards dinner on Saturday 4th October 2008. Mr Burns spoke on behalf of Mr Nick Lorentos, Chairman - ITF TAEKWON-DO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011 LTD and explained that due to the overwhelming support of Wellington City, the Organisers were very please to host the event in New Zealand's Capital.

Wellington is an exciting, compact City, perfect for such an event, and the Wellingtonians sure know how to provide real kiwi hospitality. The Wellington City Council are determined to make Wellington the Events Capital of New Zealand and are right behind us by providing an amazing package! You will see street signage, parades and promotion on a grand scale.

  • The date for the World Champs has been set for the 9th to the 13th March 2011.
  • The venue is confirmed as the TSB Arena on Queens Wharf in Wellington, New Zealand.
  • First Project meeting is set for this Tuesday evening, 7th October in Wellington. All those interested in participating please contact Mr Nick Lorentos directly.
  • If you can help in any way to make this a successful event, please register here.
  • Promotion of the event has started with a production of a brochure to be distributed in Italy at the World Cup.

Final note, a special thanks to Mr Mark Banicevich and Carl Mathews for their work in securing the 2011 Worlds.

Congratulations to Mr Jeremy Hanna, winner of the 2011 ITF TAEKWON-DO WORLD CHAMPS LOGO competition.

The logo comprises two parts; primarily a human figure performing a high reverse hooking kick, secondly the silver fern which is incorporated into the kicking leg. Both of these forms are stylised to create a strongly dynamic logo.

The text beneath provides a strong graphic base for the logo, however it will also work well independently in applications where the text is not required.

The black and silver colour scheme is well recognised as representing New Zealand in competitive sport internationally. Alternative colour schemes have been developed using red, black and white - and also reversed out of a darker background (eg, white on black).

It is also possible to include the words "New Zealand" at the base of the logo. Overall the logo conveys a dynamic, energetic quality which accurately represents an ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships.

See the other finalists here THanks to everyone that took part in the competition.

DATES AND VENUE CONFIRMED

On Friday 1 June 2007 at ITF Congress, delegates voted to accept New Zealand's bid to host the 2011 ITF Taekwon-Do Senior and Junior World Championships New Zealand! See our bid video and other documentation here.

The challenge of organising the ITF World Champs is now upon us, and we are at the point of starting to name and bring together the team of people who will coordinate the event. At this early stage, we don't yet need "people on the ground" so to speak, that will come later, and your assistance will be crucial.

We are currently in negotiation with possible partners for the Championships and also finalising the structure of the Company. A Board of Directors will be finalised in January 2008 (ITF TAEKWON-DO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011 LIMITED). The Board will later appoint a Management Committee - which will be the team that co-ordinates the whole event.

We look forward to your assistance at a later stage. Please help us put together a management team that will do us proud in 2011.
