Though my main purpose in NZ was to visit family, in particular my 92 yr old mother in Hamilton, I was privileged to be invited to run breaking seminars at Papakura and Meadowbank. What a buzz to see such enthusiasm.
Jon Sawden accompanied me to Gisborne where RTR student (now ITFNZ instructor) Kim Bull displayed his talents through some 60 plus very keen students, a large number of whom tested that evening.
Great to catch up with previous students of mine including Mahesh and Ramesh Bhana, Peter Graham, Keven and Jeanette Joe, Dr Gerald Woollard, Kim Bull, Kirsten and Carolyn Vaughan.
Great to see close friends Evan Davidson, Mark Banicevich, Steve McQuillan, and Hamilton's Matthew Bates.
Jon Sawden, often seen in Australia, returned to the Sunshine Coast the day after my departure from NZ to attend the wedding of Brisbane based Glen Montgomery (ex Pakuranga and Tauranga TKD student). Jon can be seen earning his keep on www.rtrtaekwon-do.com
Whilst on the Sunshine Coast Jon continues to hone his breaking skills.
Thanks to all who made my stay a most memorable one. Trish and I plan returning to the International Instructors seminar in August (in both NZ and Australia).

Comments: Additional comments from my own experience at organising a Black Belt grading and assisting in a couple.
1. Ensure a basic first aid kit is available at all physical activities, particularly band-aids, ice and strapping tape.
2. Destructions - if possible have 2 sets of board holders/tile breaks operating alternately. This speeds up the process of set-up and clean-up between breaks immensely. Two sets of marshalls for this is best.
3. Be contactable by the examiners at any time during the grading - in case there is additional equipment/requirements that is needed urgently.
4. Make sure there is a supply of cold drinking water available to examiners AND students during the grading. (The grading I organised only had HOT running water in the changing areas!)
5. If possible organise a bin or trailer for tile debris in close proximity to the destruction area - easiest to move it only once.
6. Be prepared to brief grading students prior to the grading on where to store gear, toilets, showers, other facilities. Let them know you are there to help them. Similarly brief the Black Belts on expectations from them (done with respect and courtesy of course!).
